Introducing Two-Level Authentication for Debit Cards!

To protect your debit card transactions, a two-level authentication process is now required for any local online transactions of KD25 and above.

The first level of authentication is your debit card PIN number (as with payments of less than KD25). The second level of authentication will be an OTP (One Time Password) that will be received through SMS.

Customers with outdated, invalid or with no mobile numbers on record with NBK will no longer be able to transact online for amounts of KD25 and above as they will be unable to receive their OTP.

Error messages and/or alerts will be displayed on the KNET payment portal if the OTP is not entered or entered incorrectly. This system will come in to full effect on 30 November 2016, until which time is a grace period until 30 December 2016 where it will not be mandatory to enter the OTP to complete transactions.

  • What is 2FA?
    Central Bank mandates to protect Debit cards for local e-commerce  transactions security, where they have introduced additional layer of authentication through the “2 Factor Authentications” driven by K-net.
    With this solution in place, during an e-commerce transaction in Kuwait using local debit cards, the customer will be receiving an OTP (one time password) in their registered mobile for transactions that are above KD 25. Upon entering the OTP the actual authorization of transaction will take place and customer account will be debited.
  • When will I get the OTP message?
    When you use your Debit card during e-commerce tarnation with the amount above KD 25.
  • Can I use the same OTP for all my local online purchases?
    No you can’t, for each online transaction a unique OTP will be generated.
  • What if I didn’t receive an SMS?
    Please contact NBK Call Center on 1801801 or visit the nearest branch.
  • My OTP has been locked – what should I do?
    OTP will be blocked if you inputted the OTP three times incorrectly. Please contact NBK Call Center on 1801801.Once your NBK Secure Shopping account has been unlocked, you will be able to immediately go back online and continue your shopping.
  • How can I update my mobile number?
    Please contact NBK Call Center on 1801801 or visit the nearest branch.
